One of Ronnie’s most spectacular commissions was a twelve month project to design and carve an altar for a Hindu temple in Belfast. This project was partly sponsored by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and was seen as a major event not only in the art world , but also in the interfaith community
The central idea for the altar involves a mingling and fusion of Indian and Celtic symbolism which makes the elaborate altar that has been created from marble and carved in Irish Sycamore, completely unique in world terms. Ronnie incorporated Vedic and Celtic symbols including knot work, Tree of Life, spirals, the wheel, the lotus and the peacock all of which have very specific spiritual meanings in both traditions.
